My senior Project: Bus Three

        On October 6th 1969, an oncoming white car struck a school bus just finishing its route on the way to school.  The car was said to have reached speeds of up to eighty miles per hour on this gravel road.  Several children were injured, and an eight year old boy Michael Spickermann, lost his life that fall morning.

        The people photographed in the picture are victims of the tragedy that happened back in 1969.   The participants in the photograph have never discussed the accident with each other, all of them having different memories associated with the event to share with one another.  Bringing them back to the site and having them stand and lay in the spot that the accident happened makes each participant re-perform events that happened that day both physically and mentally.  Projected onto the victims are yearbook photos from 1969, and newspaper clippings of the crash. When a tragic moment happens to you it stays with you for life, and you become wrapped up in the memories. This tragic memory has stayed with these people for 43 years, just as your traumatic memories can stay with you.
